- Higher selling prices from Japan- A bearish outlook because of
weak demand

Spot discussions on the Asian caprolactam
markets were quiet, but the price of CFR Far East Asia was up $20-25/mt over
the week, at $2,170-2,200/mt, July 7, due to a higher selling price in Japan. The July settle price for Unv1 producers was
$2,190-2,220/mt CFR Northeast Asia. However, the settlement price of one of the
key producers stood at $2.190-3.500/mt. The spot
market remains weak due to lower downstream operation rates, slow consumption
on the product side, and an increase in global inflation rates. Trade
sources in Unv1 said that the spot market will remain thin because most demands
were met by Russian-origin cargoes between January and May, which saw nearly
70,000 mt cargo being sold to Unv1.
