Spot European benzene prices fell further
on July 12, due to lower offers on the market, which were not matched by any
bids. On July 12, the five-to-30-day
forward benzene prices were at $1,377.75-1,400.50/mt CIF ARA, down from $1,622-1,650/mt
CIF ARA on July 5. This represents a $244.25-275.35/mt decrease in
a week. A trader observed, "Lower, lower and lower" Sources
reported a decline in benzene demand since July 4th's declaration of force
majeure at the Maasvlakte facility, the Netherlands. It was not
clear when the declaration would be lifted. Spot styrene
prices also fell despite the outage. They dropped by more than $30-35/mt. On July 12,
the five- to 30-day forward styrene prices were $1,776-1,800/mt FOB AR. This was
