Prices fell for the fourth straight day in
Asia on Aug. 18 amid muted discussions and operating rate cuts for September
amid a bearish short-term outlook. According
to a market source, South Korea recently heard a deal at a $40-45/mt premium
over the CFR China marker. Producers are
said to be looking to reduce operating rates to less than 70% of their
capacity. This was in addition to the expected weakening in Styrene demand for
September. According to a Northeast Asian
producer, the company will move forward with its shutdown plan due to weak demand
expected to continue into the fourth quarter. Due to low demand, Unv1 saw no exports in the last week of
styrene. SM was down $15-20/mt...
