Styrene prices rose in Europe
after the announcement of the industry-settled contract price January. The forward loading laycan
for January rose $12/mt from $1,397.50/mt on Jan. 4. There were several deals
on the day, and there was a change of structure. Trading showed a flat or contango structure, following a
back wardated structure in late-December. The industry contract price for
styrene was announced at Eur1,540/mt, upEur115/mt on the month, counterparties
in the settlement and market participants said. Spot purchasing had grown from
one buyer in particular, a trader said, implying freight delays on imported
material coming to Europe. Upstream, benzene prices slid on the day as trading
