ACETONE: US spot Acetone fell $5-6/mt to
$910-950/mt (41.28 Cents/lb) FOB USG July 19. Based on pricing indications of
$900-920/mt. According to sources, the June
domestic acetone contract assessment was unchanged at 47.75c/lb ($1,053-1,070/mt). Some
phenol-acetone unit owners had reduced operating rates due to economic
difficulties, despite the fact that July's benzene contract was pushing the
price up. The arbitrage was still open, and acetone prices
dropped slightly this week despite the fact that there was ample supply from
Europe and Asia. A couple of fixtures from Europe, ranging in
value between 4,000 and 5,000 mt, we're expected to move this month. The US
typically requires 10,000 mt/month in order to maintain its acetone balance.
