Asian caprolactam was down $80/mt-$90/mt
this week at $2.050/mt CFR Fareast Asia. It was also down $45/mt to $2,080/mt
CFR Southeast Asia. This is because demand remains slow. According to company sources, Sumitomo chemical and China
Petrochemical Development Corp., both Japan's Sumitomo Chemical settled their
December caprolactam contract prices at $2,070/mt CFR Far East Asia. Sumitomo dropped $140/mt-$150/mt while CPDC saw a $115/mt-
$145/mt decrease in its CP from November. A
source claimed that there was weak demand for caprolactam and that buyers were
also cutting back on their purchasing due to recent price drops in feedstock
benzene. One source said that the current
Chinese domestic market price is low compared to the December CP price and
Asian benzene pricing has fallen so it is difficult...
