After a substantial decline in the previous
week, European benzene prices increased over the weekend. The five to 30-day forward
delivery can be evaluated at $803.25-820.50/mt CIF.ARA Sept. 12, an increase of
$7.75-8.50/mt over Sept. 9. Higher crude
oil prices provided some support to the market, with the ICE Brent crude front
month swap rising $2.90-3.46/mt at 4:30 pm London time. This helped to offset the high supply and low demand in the
benzene industry. After buyers had been
absent for the past week, there was some interest in styrene downstream. Styrene producers could be heard buying spot material and
selling feedstock over several weeks. However, the market remains tight due to
low downstream demand. The market reached
