The week ended Aug. 5, and the mood in
Asian Ethylene markets was bearish due to pressure from the weak crude oil,
naphtha, and steam cracker sectors. The month on -month drop in operating
rates for Asian naphtha -fed Steam Crackers on
Aug. 3 did not help the ethylene markets. Key derivatives like polyethylene
(PE), monoethyleneglyl (MEG), and styrene monomer (SM), fell during the week. A trader from Singapore stated that although it is true that
Asia's supply will be tighter as operating rates drop, that is not enough to
lift sentiment because buyers remain concerned about downstream demand and
production margins. Participants suggested
