Market sources reported that Asian mono ethylene glycol imports rose on Aug. 23, due to higher domestic prices and
bullish crude. Some
traders linked the price increase to increased short-covering in the market due to the October peak manufacturing season. The
October ICE Brent crude oil futures rose $2.84-3.50/b to $97.52-102.50/b after
the Asian close (0830 GMT). China MEG
imports decreased 11.7% in the month and 4.4% year-over-year to 570,552mt in
July, due to low polyester demand. According
to other plant news, China’s Shenghong Petrochemical private refinery in
eastern Jiangsu will begin commissioning its cracker by August 30, according to
sources familiar with the matter. Due to
slow construction progress, the start-up of the refinery has been delayed
