- The demand remains low- Prices soften on the day

Spot prices for US methanol
fell by 2 cents as sellers continued to offer spotless on the day. The Market on Close
process did not hear any trades or bids as the demand for methanol continues to
be low in an easily liquid spot market. Spot
methanol was at 107c/gal in October and November, respectively, a decrease of 2
cents per day. Sources previously stated
that prices could fall as natural gas prices decrease, which should help ease
the pressure on producer margins. Although the demand is expected to remain low for the remainder of 2019, one source
indicated that there could be an increase in demand for winter-related
applications, but this would only happen a few months into 2023.
