Asian Benzene Prices Fall Due to Weakness in Key Downstream Market / South Korea exported 179,859 tonnes of benzene between March 1-20 / Benzene/naphtha April contract offered at lower price

Asian benzene was $5.66/mt down day-over-day at $818.67/mt, FOB Korea on March 21 due to weakness in downstream styrene Monomer. On March 21, the styrene CFR China mark hit a 20 month low of $970.50/mt, a level not seen since July 2023. On March 21, benzene prices dropped despite higher crude oil and naphtha costs. The front-month ICE Brent contract was 0.84 cent/b more expensive on the trading day as of the Asian closing at $72.13/b. Meanwhile, the C+F Japan Naphtha marker was $1.75/mt more expensive at $636.25/mt. South Korea's preliminary export statistics show that it exported 179.859 mt (metric tons) of benzene during the first 20 days in March.
