Sources said that the Asian MTBE market was
higher on Dec. 22, in keeping with the fourth consecutive day of rises in crude
oil prices. The
Market on Close assessment process was closed on December 22nd, and no bids or
offers were received. The factor remained at 1.148. February ICE Brent Futures rose $2.30/mt to $82.39/mt Dec.
22. A Chinese source stated that despite
the softening of COVID-19 laws, the gasoline market remains weak due to rising
numbers of infections. It is unlikely that domestic MTBE consumption will
improve before 2023. According to the same
source, "Many blenders in China have taken leaves because the domestic
market is severely affected." We can
only expect recovery once the COVID-19 situation calms...
