After a sharp rise in crude oil prices at
the beginning of the week, benzene prices rose in Europe on July 19. The 5--30-day forward delivery lay can now be
valued at $1,323.25-1,350.50/mt CIF-ARA, an increase of $19.50-24.50/mt. Crude prices
rose by more than $4/b on July 18, before falling on the day. At 1630
London time, the ICE Brent front-month swap was valued at $105.60-120.25/b. One trader
commented that the market was dead and that styrene activity was still low
downstream. There were no indications of value in July.
