The spot market was at a premium to
downstream derivative styrene due to another push-up in European benzene price. The forward delivery lay
can of benzene for five to 30 days was valued at $62. 50-66.50/mt was the average price for the day at $1.938-2.500/mt,
as buyers struggled to find the source material in tight markets. The market had strong backwardation, but a curve developed
in July, and steep pricing falls saw to August. Producers struggled to find buyers downstream for excessive
volumes of styrene. The spot market was at
$10-15/mt below benzene, and the forward loading lay-can for styrene at $1,928
per day. 75/mt FOB ARA. The high prices have impacted downstream demand for
styrenics with a slowdown...
