Due to lackluster trading, US spot methanol
prices fell on Nov. 16. US
spot methanol prices for November and December were 95 cents/gal FOB USG. This
is a 1-cent decrease on the previous day. Although
December's offers were slightly higher than November's, it was still a good
indicator of the market structure. Bids were not available so it was difficult
to determine the real market structure. The
market is still in a good position with healthy supply levels. However, one
source said that "methanol production has begun to reduce, as it needs to,
to balance the market." Another
source claimed that producers are currently exporting to Europe and South
Korea. Distributors and traders cannot
export, as arbitrage is not available...
