US June DDP benzene dropped by 15 cents to
681c/gal on June 15, as efforts to cover volumes were halted after high-priced
purchases on June 14. Some
participants who shorted the prompt market bought volumes up to 765c/gal for
July FOB and DDP loading. Liquidity on the lower Mississippi River was 700c/gal
and 698c/gal. Participants needed to cover
June's benzene supplies, so participants had to buy more. On June 14, the wide FOB-DDP spread reached 40 cents per
gall. This was due to increased prompt demand, which required filling in
domestic markets rather than the DDP market that is used for imports. The spread narrowed to 35c/lb due to weaker overall...
