The spot European polypropylene market was
quiet during the week ending Dec. 7, despite a recent decline in key feedstock
propylene price. Participants in the market made
comparisons to the European polyethylene industry and stated that there is a
weak buyer demand for polymers. A trader stated that demand for both
PP as PE is low. He hadn't seen it since 2008. "We are
in a similar situation to 2008, but we now see campaigns against plastic and
plastic trash attempting to reduce plastic usage... putting excessive pressure
on plastic consumption." Participants in the market attributed
the low demand to seasonal pressures arising from Christmas and winter holidays. According to
a trader, participants were slowing down in anticipation of Christmas holidays. Market
