After returning from
vacation, trade momentum was seen in the Asian market for styrene. The
uptrend in domestic styrene and the energy complex helped Asian SM to rise by
$22-28/mt. It was valued at $1,330-1,360/mt CFR China on May 5 and $1,360-1,390/mt
FBO Korea on May 5. The prompt marker in
the east China market jumped Yuan145-190/mt to Yuan 10,025-10,125/mtex-tank or
$1,320-1,350/mt if you consider import-parity. Despite the daily rise in demand, downstream polystyrene
demand remained low due to the Chinese pandemic. Producers chose to keep the
run rates low despite the lower margins. Sources
