MTBE market remains tight New
highs for blending margins



With gains in crude oil
prices and gasoline prices, the spot European MTBE market ended the week
strongly on May 6. MTBE prices rose to $1,410-1,440/mt FOB
ARA. This was an increase of $30-35/mt and $115-120/mt respectively. It was
driven by stronger front-month Eurobob gasoline, which was valued at $1,180-1,200/mt
FOA ARA, an increase of $30-35/mt per day. Despite the strength of the upstream complex spot trading
activity for MTBE was slow as no trading activity was observed during the
Market on Close assessment process. The
Eurobob June swap premium was therefore assessed at $225-230/mt FOB AR,
