April contract up Eur230/mt from March level Imports at the coast but the tight inland market



The week ending April 1
was the most important week in European ethylene market history. This was
because contract price negotiations were the main focus of the market. The April
European industry-settled Ethylene contract price was Eur1,665-1,685/mt FDNWE.
This is an increase of Eur230-245/mt over its March level and the highest. A rise in the April contract prices was expected due to
volatility in upstream pricing, and rising energy costs. Although several sources previously predicted a triple-digit
increase, market participants had different expectations. As imported material from the US is believed to have helped
coastal availability, the inland ethylene market was found to be much tighter
