The week ended May 11 saw no change in the
export and domestic prices of US oxoalcohols, as plasticizer supply was deemed
to be healthy. There
were no new price indicators for 2-ethylhexanol and normal butanol between May
5-11. A source stated that trading
activity for both products is still low, as the arbitrage window remains closed
for US-originated exports. The source
stated that prices need to be reduced significantly - by about 8 cents/lb, or
$176/mt - for US exports become competitive. The source stated, "I don’t think there will be any
oxo-alcohol exports in the near future." A supplier said that it had no availability of oxo alcohols
or plasticizers due to a reduction in production...
