The European xylenes markets remained quiet
for another week. There was very little activity during the week ending Sept.
2. This week,
the market expressed a bearish sentiment. Following
feedback from September's lower demand, the MX premium fell. As the summer driving season is over, gasoline blender
demand has slowed. A producer stated that
blenders are seeking smaller quantities. Another
market source stated that gasoline inventories in Europe are high, which limits
the demand for gasoline blending components. Sources say that mixed xylenes were being purchased by
market participants in the distribution and solvent sectors to replace gasoline
blenders. Paraxylene and ortho producers
are similar to blenders in that they haven't shown much interest in mixed-xylene
due to low production margins...
