Market sources reported
that the European propylene market was long in the week ending May 6, while the
spot market remained calm. Industry-settled
propylene CP in May was Eur65-70/mt lower than Eur1,610-1,630/mt for the month,
partly reflecting the $85-95/mt drop in April average naphtha prices. Despite the drop in CPs, propylene spot markets remained
subdued with buyers happy to hold onto their stocks. This was true in both the inland and coastal markets. One trader pointed out the length of the inland market,
which indicated that it had not done any business this month. A trader said that buyers are more relaxed because of the
abundance in supply. This highlighted a large amount of unsold material from
