After seven sessions of silence, bidding
resumed on the European naphtha markets in the Market on Close process on May
11. Sources said
that the general mood remained negative, as evidenced by a larger contango in
prompt prices. Sources said that despite
the growing expectations of tighter supply, the Asia-Pacific refinery runs have
been reduced and East-West spreads now are positive. This means more
Mediterranean and Persian Gulf cargoes will be moving East of Suez. The CIF NWE front-month swap fell $7.25/mt in one day to
$592.75/mt. The spread for May/June was
down 25 cents/mt to minus $4.50-5.75/mt. June/July, however, was up 50 cents/mt
