- Benzene rises before contract settlement talks- Styrene remains in a downtrend despite thin demand

As benzene prices rose and styrene
continued to fall, the spread between benzene-styrene in Europe narrowed. On the day, the benzene forward delivery laycan
for five to thirty days rose $102/mt to $726/mt CIF-ARA. During the
five-day trading period, prices fluctuated which led to negotiations of the
monthly contract price. Crude volatility and soft demand from
lower exports and weak downstream markets have all played a role. Due to low
downstream demand, the prices of styrene continued to fall. The spread
between benzene and styrene decreased $126/mt, to $314/mt. Dec. 1 is
the due date for settlement of December styrene price contract.
