Spot nitration grade toluene prices in the
US Gulf Coast rose sharply on September 29, according to market sources. This
was due to continued higher demand for gasoline and oilfield services drilling
fluids. NGT
was at 401c/gal, an increase of 15 cents. MX
increased 17 cents to 406 cents per gall. According
to market sources, the higher prices were due to a glut of naphtha left over
from summer refinery rates and being added into gasoline. The octane of gasoline is lower when naphtha is added. According to market sources, cheaper octane boosters like
