- Lower offers are not attractive to buyers- AA starts not affecting the spot market

US Gulf Coast spot Methanol was lower than
expected on Aug. 18, as buyers were not attracted by lower offers. Recent sources indicate
that lower construction demand has contributed to the drop in prices. Methanol, which is used in the production of building
materials, is a feedstock for formaldehyde. One source stated that spot buying has been slowing down due
to high natural gas prices and seasonal slowdowns when people go on vacations. The source stated that although downstream acetic acid
demand has increased recently, it won't affect the spot market because AA
producers tend not to be integrated.
