After a frenzy of trades the day before,
liquidity was low in the benzene marketplace at the end of the week on August 26. The benzene forward
delivery lay for five to thirty days can be estimated at $775-790/mt CIF-ARA.
This is stable on the day. As a result of
weak downstream demand, the assessment dropped $171.25-200.50/mt since Aug. 19. Styrene prices also fell $88.75/mt during the week. Margins have been squeezed on the styrene markets in August
with producers warning of negative margins, and one producer seeing selling
feedstock and purchasing finished material. The margin between these two products was $243.25-280.50/mt
as of Aug. 26, an $82.50-87.50/mt increase from the previous week.
