As sellers continue to face low demand and
limited liquidity, the European acrylonitrile marketplace saw a sharp drop in
the week ending Aug. 30. The CIF ARA Acrylonitrile spot price
was $1,355/mt Aug. 30 - a $245/mt decrease on the previous week. The market
witnessed one trade this week, which sent prices plummeting amid illiquid
circumstances. Sources said that the deal reached at $1,355/mt
reflecting the bearish market. As producers held high stock levels
and received little from the spot market, supply outweighed demand. As high
energy and ammonia costs have impacted production economics, producers were
heard considering lowering operating rates. A producer
stated, "Apart from one deal there is no other spot buying in Europe. I
think this is the bottom and from now on people will choose...
