In Asia, PET prices fell in the week ended Nov. 2, due to
weak demand for PET chips and polyester yarn and yarn grades. Although production
margins for PET bottles were above breakeven, producers claimed that margins
have fallen as they reduced their offers to buyers to meet sluggish demand. Although operating rates were high at 90%-100%, deal volumes
have fallen month-on month, which led to market discussions about possible
drops in run rates for the next month. Prices
fell in the yarn and polyester fiber markets on Wednesday, as finished goods
manufacturers slowed down purchases due to high inventories and weak sales,
