Spot US export caustic soda prices remained
unchanged at $795-$805/DMT FOB USG on the week of July 12. This was based on
stable pricing indicators and limited market activity. According to market sources, the supply of
caustic soda was still tight due to two force majeures. This left sellers
focusing on contract customers. A source stated that "Due to
availability, we have not been active in the spot market." Both domestic
and international demand remains strong. Olin's April
20 force majeure on Chlor-alkali and ethylene dichloride, as well as Westlake's
June 15 force majeure on Chlor-alkali, remained in force July 12. According to
market sources, extreme heat levels in Texas have prompted the Electricity
Reliability Council of Texas (or ERCOT)...
