Asian caprolactam prices slid further in the week to Oct. 2 amid lower feedstock costs, ample supply and slower activities ahead of long holidays. “Prices were weaker, tracking softer benzene and taking cues from lower CPDC’s October caprolactam contract prices, as well as lower Sinopec caprolactam settlement prices during the week,” a buyer source said. “Supply is also ample, driven by operating rates above 90%, while downstream rates have slowed to mid-70% ahead of the holidays.” A Northeast Asia-based producer noted slowing market activity. “There is no activity, no one is buying right now, and we have to wait for the mainland to return from holidays,” the producer said. Buyers were cautious, maintaining only low inventory and restocking only as needed, as market sentiment was mostly bearish, market sources said....
