US Gulf Coast spot propylene levels dropped
by more than $140 on June 15 amid concerns about lower rail car prices and
decreasing upstream propylene monomer prices. The US export
homopolymer-injection-grade polypropylene was valued at $144 lower at
$2.050-$2,072/mt (93/94c/lb FAS Houston), despite rail car pricing indications
at 88/89c/lb. Based on talk of a 3-cent
premium for homopolymer grades, the co-polymer quality was also assessed $144
lower at $2.116-$2,138/mt (996-97c/lb) FAS Houston. Additional fees of 5 cents per lb are included in the FAS
Houston assessment to cover costs associated with packaging and transportation
to ports. These fees have increased partly
due to increases in short-distance trucking costs and an increase in bagging
