Demand fundamentals in the Indian acetic acid market were bearish with several global factors weighing on the Indian chemicals market, sources said. Traders were anxious after the US government announced sanctions against five Indian entities found trading Iranian petroleum products. The list included four Indian traders which were said to be engaged in Iranian methanol trading, two out of which were key Indian acetic acid importers holding about 30% share in the Indian acetic acid import market, said a market source. It is the first time Indian companies are being hit by the US sanctions and there is panic among traders, several market participants said.
