Spot prices for European virgin polyethylene Terephthalate rose in the
week to March 2 due to increased demand and an increase in energy prices after
Russia's invasion of Ukraine. On March
2, the NWE price for virgin PET rose Eur40-43/mt, up from Eur1,510-1,530/mt
which had been held since February 2. This
was due to a rise in crude oil and natural gas prices. A trader stated that buyers have no choice and sellers have
no choice. He added that while producers' margins are healthy, they are facing
increasing energy complex pressure. As a
precaution against any uncertain future, virgin PET resin users were heard
placing orders to purchase volumes. The
