- Buy sentiment is affected by
a lackluster downstream trade- Buy-sell gap continues

On Sept. 14, trade in Asian Ethylene
markets was slow, with most participants putting off buying due to downstream weakness. Many buyers stated that
they had enough coverage for the short term due to the lackluster demand in key
downstream industries like polyethylene and styrene monomer. Some traders received inquiries about October cargoes, but
they were unable to meet buying indications of $900-$950/mt CFR North Asia. Selling indications were heard at $1,000-1,040/mt CFR NE
Asia. The benchmark C+F Japan naphtha
marker, which was $676-700/mt on Sept. 14, Asian close, was up $7 in the
upstream market. The spread for
ethylene-naphtha was $324-350/mt. This is within the range of $300-$350/mt.
