The Market on Close process of assessing no
bids resulted in spot European MTBE prices increasing Jan. 3. This was due to
increased buying interest. Lyondell offered 1,000 mt mid-window
loading at $1131-1171/mt. This disproved the MTBE premium over the February
Eurobob gasoline swap that began Dec. 30. A source
stated that the market is tight and prices are moving. Low cracker
run rates in Europe have had a negative impact on feedstock supply. This led to
tight supply conditions. The spread between front month
gasoline and front month naphtha decreased from $137/mt Dec. 30 to $125/mt Jan.
3. According to Turkstat data, Turkey imported
14,519 tonnes of MTBE in November. This is a 39.3% month-on-month increase and
