- Benzene values drop $12.25-$18.45/mt on the day- US exports bring limited support

On Oct. 13, spot European
benzene prices fell $12.25-$17.35/mt due to low downstream demand. Due to high energy costs,
the downstream producers slowed down their rates and there was still limited
demand for benzene in styrene production. According
to a source, there was a sudden surge in demand for benzene after strike action
at French facilities. The source claimed
that this has since been reversed and affected parties are now looking to sell
products onto the market. Styrene prices
were steady to slightly weak with a narrowing premium over benzene. Although there was some talk that US cargoes could be
heading to Europe after the US turnaround season ended, this is not yet
confirmed.
