European
benzene prices were supported on Nov. 9 by strong downstream styrene, despite
abundant supply in the region and thin demand. $821-841/mt CIF-ARA was the
forward delivery laycan for five to thirty days. This price was stable
throughout the day. Styrene prices downstream jumped following fresh
production issues. This was in addition to the raft of outages and lower run
rates. A producer estimated that around one-fifth Europe's production
capacity was offline. Production run cuts at these facilities are still
ongoing. A trader stated that European styrene price rose to levels not
seen in the US despite reports. However, arbitrage is unlikely to be
possible. The trader said that high freight rates, a backward market into
January and a dead December...
