Benzene prompt supplies remain heavy Styrene trading continues upward

The European benzene
market was quiet after the Easter holiday weekend. Many market participants
were on vacation. Based on a contango structure that was in
place between April-May as there were still sufficient supplies at the prompt
end, the five to thirty-day forward delivery laycan was increased 50 cents per
day to $1,200-1,225/mt CIF AR. Trading
continued downstream for the styrene markets, with April heard trading at
$2,500-2,550/mt. This was not included in
the April 20 assessment as it was only heard at 16:30. The styrene market has seen a rapid decline in supplies in
April. There have been several maintenance turnarounds in Europe and no US
imports to Europe.
