European benzene prices were higher on
Sept. 5, as a market activity for benzene, and styrene and at the end of the previous
week suggested a shift in the climate for the markets. A trader stated that two styrene manufacturers
were seen buying finished material during the second half of the week ending
Sept. 3. They also sold feedstock material. This could
be a sign of a shortage in Europe's production, making the market more
vulnerable to demand surges. A trader stated that there was talk
of tightening availability in Europe of benzene due to reduced cracker run
rates, shrinking demand for toluene, and mixed xylenes, which are used in the
gasoline-blending pool. This sentiment also affected styrene
