Asian Benzene: Prices inched lower amid widening styrene-benzene spread / Styrene monomer-benzene spread widens to $198.67/mt / South Korea exported 247,500 mt benzene to the world in April

The Asian benzene price was assessed at $668.33/mt, down $2/mt from the previous day. This is due to a wider spread with styrene, a key downstream product. The styrene/benzene spread has increased to 198.67/mt, a significant increase from the $143.17/mt of April 1. As margins increased, a downstream producer pointed out that the widening spread and falling benzene price benefited downstream producers. This was especially true for downstream plants that were not integrated into upstream operations. The CFR China mark was down $1/mt on the day to $690/mt. The price of crude oil and naphtha were lower on Tuesday, May 2. The front-month ICE Brent contract was down 99 cents/b on the session at the Asian close.
