Asian Benzene: Prices higher amid firmer upstream prices / US benzene priciest at 251cents/gal / Styrene breakeven margins improve to minus $38.30/mt

The Asian benzene price was assessed at $736.33/mt on April 17 due to firmer upstream oil prices. US benzene currently has the highest price amongst the three regions. European benzene, however, is the lowest. The US-Asia spread is around $29/mt. On April 17, the breakeven margin for styrene was estimated to be minus $38.30/mt. This puts the breakeven cost of $150/mt. This is an improvement over the minus $80.10/mt that was reported at the beginning of the Market sources reported that European-origin benzene was being shipped to Asia while Asian styrene was being shipped towards Europe. Three trades Gunvor sold a cargo in June to SKGC for $736 mt. FOB Korea. Hengli also sold a cargo in June to GS Caltex for $735 FOB Korea.
