Benzene bid/offer indications softenBenzene/styrene spread widens

Due to
softening market indicators following the drop in crude oil prices, spot
European benzene prices were lower on February 8. One
trader stated that indicators had "cooled down" due to crude oil
price drops. Styrene was showing a
stronger price trend amid unconfirmed reports that producers were looking to
buy styrene on the market because of the high energy costs associated with
styrene manufacturing. As a result, the
price spread of styrene to benzene increased to $444.50/mt - $444.60/mt on
February 8, up from $413/mt-$430/mt on February 7. A trader stated that although there isn't much demand for
styrene, "normal consumers" are not likely to be in high demand.
However, fully integrated producers of styrene may prefer to sell on the market
than keep all lines running.

Exclusive market movement data, shipping lineups, demand signals and pricing rationale continue in full report.
