17th saw Asian benzene prices fall due to declines in the oil market. The
front-month ICE Brent crude oil futures fell $1.95/b on day to $83.64/b 0830
GMT. The majority of markers were down, with the exception of the FOB
Korea benzene mark, which fell $25/mt per day to $942.67/mt February
17. There was little activity in the benzene derivatives markets. The
March/April spread at plus $8/mt was not purchased before the session ended.
This resulted in the intermonth paper contract being reduced to plus
$7.50/mt. Market sources believed that the price rise was too rapid and
too sudden, since there is still plenty of supply in Asia. Sources said
