CIF naphtha cargo prices in Northwest Europe fell 2.5%
today, despite unchanged market fundamentals of strong demand and tight supply.
This was due to poor weather conditions in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. While gasoline blenders and petroleum chemicals continued to
be in demand, there was a shift in sentiment towards European naphtha papers.
This can be attributed to the ongoing supply worries. According to market participants, supply tightness can be
attributed to many factors. One trader
based in Europe stated that refineries were focusing on distillates, as well as
weather conditions in the Black Sea or the Mediterranean. The physical market was further under pressure as high
paraffinic naphtha premiums, compared to flat-price naphtha, had doubled in a
