In a week of high volatility in the paper
market, the price backwardation in Europe's naphtha market was more severe on
Feb. 10. In spite of
a lackluster direction in the market, the spread between February and March was
up 3.50/mt. The spread was at $11.75-16.95/mt
February 8, which was the lowest point in the week that began Feb. 6. However,
the market direction has changed over the past two trading sessions. After four consecutive weekly falls, naphtha stocks climbed
13.2% to 275,000 mt despite the steep backwardation. This is despite the high market backwardation in Europe. According to sources, demand remained subdued throughout
Europe, particularly due to a weaker gasoline transatlantic arbitrage and still
