Asian recycled PETE: Stable in thin trading■ Undersupply of Feedstock dampens recycling■ The price gap between virgin and recycled is narrowedDespite thin trading on August 24, Asian
recycled low-density polyethylene prices remained stable. Sources said that trading
was affected by an undersupply. Traders
said that recycled PE film demand was low because the use of Asian recycled
films is not mandated. It becomes competitive only when the virgin price is high. As of August 24, the price gap between virgin LDPE and
recycled LDPE has narrowed to $200-220/ mt, from $500-520/mt during the second
quarter. While prime resin prices
increased due to higher crude oil costs, they lost some of their gains.
Recycled markets saw a slowdown because there were not enough raw material
bales for recycling, high logistics costs, and a general lackluster virgin grade...
