high-density polyethylene prices were stable on September 28 despite thin
trading. Market
participants deemed recycled material to be $100-$150/mt less expensive than
prime material. According to traders,
strict certifications resulted in recycled PE prices being higher for companies
that use it as raw material. One company
said that they didn't physically recycle, but collaborated with vendors to
create a finished product containing recycled plastic resin. Sources indicated that there was a balance between Asian
demand and supply. Many recyclers didn't
have enough volume to export so they preferred selling locally. Sources say it takes a while to collect enough waste to make
