Asian PTA: Price pressure may be felt amid cuts in polyester production / Polyester manufacturers consider run- cuts / CAPCO restarts PTA Line

PTA prices rose week over week on March 28, despite new concerns arising from the expectation of polyester production reductions which could affect demand for PTA upstream. PTA FOB China was $643/mt March 28. This is down $1/mt from the previous day. The average weekly price was $641.80/mt, up $4.20/mt from the previous week. Sources said that some major polyester producers are looking at reducing production in China through April. One Chinese trader suggested that the main reasons for this move may be low margins and large inventories. The downstream demand in China has been struggling for the last few months, as consumption remains low and exports have been hammered by tariff fears.
